มาตรฐานอเมริกัน (Imperial / American Standards):
ระบุขนาดด้วยเบอร์ (มักจะใช้สัญลักษณ์ #) ตามด้วยตัวเลข
ตัวเลขมีไว้สำหรับอ้างอิง เส้นผ่านศูนย์กลางเกลียว (d) ของสกรู (หน่วยเป็นนิ้ว)
ตัวอย่าง: #6 หมายถึง เส้นผ่านศูนย์กลางเกลียว 0.138 นิ้ว
มาตรฐานเมตริก (Metrics Standards):
ระบุขนาดด้วยตัวอักษร M ตามด้วยตัวเลข
ตัวเลขหมายถึง เส้นผ่านศูนย์กลางเกลียว (d) ของสกรู (หน่วยเป็นมิลลิเมตร)
ตัวอย่าง: M6 หมายถึง เส้นผ่านศูนย์กลางเกลียว 6 มม.
